JOHN ALDEN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1845. John is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 10 yrs. He was aged 15 yrs., residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155].

SARAH BRIGGS, born in Massachusetts ca. 1828. She was aged 22 yrs. and residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

APPALONI BURRELL, born in Massachusetts ca. 1796. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 69 yrs., unmarried, occupation house work.

ASA BURRILL, born at Stoughton, Mass. 10 August 1776; died at Stoughton. ca. 1862-3. He was the son of David and Mary (Dyer) Burrell of Stoughton. Asa was aged 74 yrs., listed as a pauper while he was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107]. He was is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 79 yrs. Asa was aged 82 listed as a shoe maker, and a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. Perhaps he is the Asa Burrill mentioned under a Norfolk County Guardianship in 1809 (#2941). He married PHEBE -----, born in Massachusetts ca. 1774; died at Stoughton, Mass. 17 May 1865. She was aged 86 yrs. residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 91 yrs., widowed, occupation housework.

DAVID LINFIELD BURRELL, born at Stoughton, Mass. 19 February 1795; and died there 21 July 1872, aged 77 yrs. 5 mos. 2 dys. He married at Randolph, Mass. 21 October 1821 to Hannah Ludden. She was born in Braintree, Mass. 2 May 1796; and died 23 November 1844, aged 48 yrs. David was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 71 yrs., widowed boot maker. David was buried at the Central Cemetery in Randolph, Mass.

DENNIS CARNEY, born in Ireland ca. 1824.  He was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 56 yrs. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

THOMAS CARNEY, born in New York ca. 1844. Thomas was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 21 yrs., cannot read or write, and is a cripple with no occupation. He was aged 26 yrs. residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14]. Possible he is a Civil War veteran?

JOHN CURTAIN, born in Ireland ca. 1820.  He was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

DeCOSTER CHILDREN.  In 1880 the following DeCoster / DeCosta children were living at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880: Ann (age 11), Henry (age 7).  Both children were born in Massachusetts. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

SUSAN DICKERMAN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1793. She is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 62 yrs. Perhaps she is the Susan mentioned in the Stoughton guardianship case in 1802 (#5546).

JABEZ DRAKE, born at Easton, Mass. 4 November 1801, perhaps the son of Elijah and Susanna (Churchill) Drake of Easton; died at Stoughton unmarried 14 March 1877. He was aged 69 yrs. residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14]. He was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 65 yrs., occupation laborer, unmarried. Mentioned in Louis Stoughton Drake’s book The Drake Family (Boston, 1896).

GEORGE FLINN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1850. He was aged 10 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. George was enrolled in school at the time of the 1860 Census. Perhaps George, John and James are orphaned brothers ?

JAMES FLINN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1856. He was aged 4 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. He was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 9 yrs. John was enrolled in school at the time of the 1860 Census. Perhaps George, John and James are orphaned brothers ?

He was aged 7 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155], and aged 17 yrs. Listed as John Flynn residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14]. Perhaps George, John and James are orphaned brothers?

ROSILLA FLYNN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1821. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 44 yrs.

SARAH FLYNN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1850. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 15 yrs., listed as a factory worker.

ARTEMAS FRENCH, born at Stoughton, Mass. 28 September 1781; and died there unmarried 14 November 1866, aged 85 yrs. Artemas was the son of Capt. John and Damaris (Howard) French. He was aged 75 yrs., listed as a pauper while he was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107]. Artemas was aged 80 yrs., listed as an “idiot” residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. He was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 85 yrs. and unmarried. He is mentioned in the genealogy by Sidney French, The Family Ancestry and Descendants of Capt. John French of Stoughton, Mass. (Randolph, Mass. 1870)

ISAAC FRENCH, born in Mass. ca. 1810.  He was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 70. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

NORTON GILPATRICK, born in Massachusetts ca. 1830. He was aged 20 yrs., a farmer residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

DAVID GOLDTHWAIT, born at Stoughton, Mass. ca. 1809, died at Stoughton 10 March 1866, aged 55 yrs., due to fits. David was the son of Joseph and Mary E. (Linfield) He was aged 40 yrs., a bootmaker, listed as pauper “insane” residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107]. He is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 46 yrs. David was aged 54 yrs. listed as “insane” residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. He was listed as a pauper and “insane” residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 54 yrs.

---- GOLDTHWAIT, born at Mass. ca, 1816.  He was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm age 64 in 1880 [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38].

SETH GOLDTHWAIT, born in Massachusetts ca. 1803. He was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 62 yrs., occupation laborer. He married before 1851 to DRUCILLA ---, born in Massachusetts ca. 1823. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 42 yrs. Children born in Massachusetts: Clarisa, b. ca. 1851, she was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 14 yrs.; Abbie, b. ca. 1853, she was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 12 yrs.; Fanny L., b. ca. 1854, she was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 11 yrs.; Charles H., b. ca. 1857, he was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 8 yrs.; Elisha W., b. ca. 1860, he was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 5 yrs.; Martha C., b. ca. 1864

HANNAH GOODING, born in Massachusetts ca. 1812. She was aged 48 (or 78), listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

JERUSHA GUILD, born in Massachusetts ca. 1794.  She was living at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 86.  [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

ASA HAYDEN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1785. He is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 70 yrs.

ASA HOLBROOK, born in Massachusetts ca. 1835. He was aged 25 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. Perhaps he is related to Luella Holbrook?

LUELLA A. HOLBROOK, born in Massachusetts ca. 1851. She was aged 9 yrs., listed as residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. Perhaps she is related to Asa Holbrook?

BETHIAH HOLMES, born in Massachusetts ca. 1766. She was aged 84 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107]. She is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 89 yrs.

DANIEL JAMISON, born in Ireland ca. 1780. He was aged 80 yrs. residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14].  He is still residing there in 1880, age 89. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

HANNAH KEITH, born in Massachusetts ca. 1776. She was aged 74 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

MARY E. LINFIELD, born in Massachusetts ca. 1800. She was aged 70 yrs. residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14].

SAMUEL LITTLEFIELD, born in Massachusetts ca. 1802.  He was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 78 yrs. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

EDWARD O'BRIEN, born at Ireland ca. 1833.  He was a resident of the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 47 yrs. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

CHARLES A. PAREN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1861. He was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 4 yrs. Charles is mentioned a “removal” case in Norfolk county probate in Wrentham, Mass. 1869 (#13969).

LIZZIE A. PAREN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1863. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 2 yrs. Lizzie is mentioned a “removal” case in Norfolk county probate in Wrentham, Mass. 1869 (#13969). There is also a Cora Paren mentioned, however no mention of Mary A. Paren in the index.

MARY A. PAREN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1856. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 9 yrs.

SUSAN PARKER, born ca. 1786. Susan was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 79 yrs., widowed, a straw worker. She was aged 84 yrs., residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14].

JOHN F. ROSS, born in Massachusetts ca. 1829. He was aged 21 yrs., listed as pauper “idiotic” residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

HANNAH SMITH, born in Massachusetts ca. 1766. She was aged 84 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

LUTHER SMITH, born in Massachusetts ca. 1817. He was aged 33 yrs., a farmer residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

SALLY SMITH, born in Massachusetts ca. 1793. She is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 72 yrs. Sally was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 71, widowed and her occupation was given as house work.

SAMUEL SMITH, born in Massachusetts ca. 1845. He was aged 5 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107].

She was aged 3 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1850 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-432, roll # 329, p. 107], and was aged 14 yrs., listed as a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. She was enrolled in school at the time of the 1860 Census.

WILLIAM SPRAGUE, born in Massachusetts ca. 1805.  He was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 75 yrs. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

MARY A. TARBETT, born in Massachusetts ca. 1823. She is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 32 and listed as “mulatto”. No doubt she is the mother of ALLACE V. TARBETT, born in Massachusetts ca. 1841. She is living at the Poor farm in 1855 aged 4 yrs.

RICHARD THAYER, born at Massachusetts ca. 1810.  In 1880 he was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm age 70 yrs. [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

HIRAM VOSE, born ca. 1824. Hiram was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 41, an unmarried laborer. He was aged 46 yrs. residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14].  Hiram was still residing at the Poor Farm age 56 [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38].

NATHAN WARREN, born in Massachusetts ca. 1789. He was aged 71 yrs., listed as a carpenter and a pauper residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1860 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-653, roll # 515, p. 155]. He was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 as a widower aged 76 yrs., his occupation was a carpenter. Perhaps this is the same Nathan Warren of Stoughton mentioned in the guardianship in 1841 (#19434).

LEONARD WHITING, born ca. 1811. He was aged 59 yrs., residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm [1870 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) NARA M-593, roll # 636, p. 14].

RACHEL WHITING, born at Massachusetts ca. 1792. She was a pauper residing at the Poor farm in 1865 aged 73 yrs., widowed, occupation house work. Perhaps she is the mother of Leonard Whiting ?

LAVINA H. WING, born at Massachusetts ca. 1816.  She was residing at the Stoughton Poor Farm in 1880, age 64 [1880 U.S. Census (Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts) , p. 38]

1850

Issac Marston, born at Livermore, Maine 29 January 1822; died at Stoughton, Mass. 6 May 1858, aged 36 yrs. 3 mos. He married at Maine 9 August 1847 to Mary D. “Polly” Fuller. She was b. in Maine ca. 1821. Isaac was listed as the “Poor House Keeper” on the Census of 1850. Children born in Massachusetts : Hellen F., b. in Mass 19 June 1848; d. 21 June 1854; Henry V. b. 25 March 1850 (aged 4 mos. in the 1850 Census), died 9 March 1852; and Isaac V., b. 22 January 1853. This family appears in Nathaniel Washington Marston, The Marston Genealogy (So. Lubec, Me. 1886) p. 75.


1855

Erastus Holt, b. in Maine ca. 1817. He was listed as the “alms house master” at the time of the 1855 Census. He married before 1839 to Lucinda. She was b. in Maine ca. 1814. Children born in Maine: Artimas, b. ca. 1839; Ellen A., b. ca. 1841; Emery L. b. ca. 1846; Erastus E. b. ca. 1849.

Employed at the Poor Farm though not paupers.

Asa B. Pope, b. at Mass. ca. 1819. A laborer.

Timothy Carroll, b. in Ireland ca. 1832. A laborer.

1860-1870

William Caldwell, b. in Maine ca. 1806, d. bet. 1860-70. He married before 1836 to Susan --. She was b. in Maine ca. 1809. William was the caretaker of the Poor farm on the Census of 1860, and Eunice is “keeping Poor House” in 1870. Child: Ebenezer, b. in Maine/Mass. ca. 1846, still alive in 1870. 

Employed at the Poor Farm though not paupers.

Anna Cobb, b. in Massachusetts ca. 1836. Listed as an unmarried domestic in the 1855 Census working with the Caldwell family.

1880

Joseph P. Conant, born in Mass. ca. 1823.  He married before 1880 to Ruth H. (----).  She was born in Mass. ca. 1833.  Living in their house servant Clara Stearns, b. in Mass. ca. 1861, also their son [name illegible] is 22 and is listed as a teacher.
