Very interesting website, and I hope to have assistance with my query: is the architect of the First Congregational Church of Stoughton (built 1851) known? I checked the North Bridgewater Gazette and found an account of the dedication in early 1852, identifying DB Bartlett as the contractor, but no architect is named. At the time, Boston architects were designing churches in the surrounding towns, and it seems probable that the Stoughton church was architect-designed, too. Do the church records, such as building committee reports, exist for this period? Is there a dedication pamphlet with information about the building? I appreciate any advice or assistance. With thanks,
Steve Jerome

I grew up in Stoughton through 1964. My family ties are through my maternal Russell and Holmes line. My grandfather's brother founded the JW Wood Elastic Web company so interested in any history of that manufacturing company. I have photo of Holmes house on Kenneth Court. will the newest book you have written give info about my Russell and Holmes relatives?

Thanks so much for the history lesson. I was born (1944) and raised in Stoughton - I was born at Norfolk Hospital -l ived on Clapp Street for 18 years, then on Belcher Street. I went to St. Mary's School and Stoughton High - graduating in 1962. I've lived in Rhode Island for the past 40 years after living in Virginia and Maryland. But Stoughton will always be my home - What a wonderful history lesson- I've learned so much more about my home town - thanks so much! |

This has been a great site for me to find information about my father's ancestors. His cousin, uncle, and Grandfather were all involved in some way with the Police and Fire companies in Stoughton. I am still trying to find out more information since my father doesn't know much about his family. Any information connected to the Pye family would be helpful. |

The recent piece in the Brockton Enterprise brought me back to the train station after being away for 40 years! My pals and I used to swim in the quarries where the stone came from! |

Hello David! Thank you for puting up such a great history site on Stoughton. I am working on a project for one of my aunts who has ancestors from Stoughton, and I found several valuable items here today. She is a descendant of Ephraim Morse, son of Joseph Morse and Rachel Phillips, and Susanna Bartlett, daughter of Benjamin Bartlett and Susanna Hayden. I first caught on to the website by finding your piece, "Looking back: Stoughton, Mass, a Century Ago This Week," done in August last year. I think I should try to find a copy of your Vital Records of Stoughton. Great work! |
